Tyra Burton joins the KSU Journey Honors College as an Honors Lecturer

The Keeping Sights Upward Journey Honors College is excited to announce Tyra Burton will be joining the KSU Journey Honors College as an honors lecturer beginning in Fall 2025.

Tyra Burton is a Senior Lecturer of Marketing at Ƶ where she received the 2022 Outstanding University Teach Award and the KSU Betty L. Siegel Alumni Association Faculty Award. She specializes in developing curriculum related to digital marketing, social media, and the entertainment industry. She utilizes her experience as a podcaster and live-streamer as the host of Coles College’s Building Bold Connections podcast.

 

For most of her twenty-two years at KSU, Tyra has been involved with the Honors program as a mentor, capstone supervisor, and department liaison. Her Honors’ Discovery courses use pop culture to teach about marketing concepts including Marketing Magic and Mayhem: Exploring Taylor Swift, the NFL and New Heights Marketing, The Marketing of Fandom, The Disney Side: A Study of the Marketing, Management and Cultural Impact of Disney, and Technology’s Impact on Changing Culture courses. 
 
A former honors student herself and already familiar with the KSU Journey Honors College, Burton is excited to now call it her second home. 
 
“Honors has been a part of my life since I was an undergraduate student,” Burton says. “It is a dream come true for me to be an Honors Lecturer and have the opportunity to help KSU students on their honors journey to be life-long learners and contributors to the greater community.” 
 
“Tyra has a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring and has long been a valued partner to honors,” said Karen Kornweibel, Dean of KSU Journey Honors College. “I look forward to having her teaching in our core courses and working to create new opportunities for honors students.”
