Support Teachers to Assist Homeless Children

While several literatures address the challenges and difficulties of children experiencing homelessness in school systems, those teachers鈥� perspectives and experiences on children experiencing homelessness are not enough. The research project aims to identify the challenges and needs of teachers working with children experiencing homelessness and to fill the paucity of literature on children experiencing homelessness in teacher education.

The research team anticipates this project will stimulate more conversations to raise the unquestioned assumptions about children experiencing homelessness while impacting a broader community to support those children. The project outcomes will empower local schools by guiding teachers who work with children experiencing homelessness, and they will also have the potential to positively influence school policies.

Experience Gained

Students will learn and experience a range of research skills, including, but not limited to: 

  • Scholarly literature review.
  • Document analysis.
  • Data collection, organization, and management.
  • Interpretations of data.
  • Community-based learning through collaborative work with a local community.
  • Research presentations and public speaking.
